Dual Credit Facilitator Guidelines
General Guidelines
Amarillo College
The High School Facilitator of an Amarillo College Dual Credit course is responsible for supporting the teaching of an online or telecourse. The facilitator is highly beneficial to the success of the dual credit program. You are the daily personal contact, the face of Amarillo College, for the dual credit students. The purpose of this guide is to outline Amarillo College expectations of you as a course facilitator.
Communication
- Provide contact information to the instructor of record. Needed contact information:
- School mailing address and phone number
- Home mailing address
- Email address
- Cell phone number or home phone number
- Following the communications guidelines provided by the instructor of record for your course. The instructor of record will tell you his/her preferences on dealing with students.
- Call or email the instructor of record if you have any questions concerning course content.
- The facilitator is expected to support the instructor of record when dealing with students. If there is an issue that needs to be considered, the facilitator should contact the instructor of record and discuss the problem.
- Discuss school holiday and school closure dates with the instructor of record.
Grading
- The Instructor of Record is responsible for establishing how grading student work that is to be used in establishing the college grade in the course will be handled. You will be informed of the role your will be asked to play.
- Facilitators may give supplemental assignments. These assignments are to be graded by the facilitator. Supplemental assignments will only count toward the high school grade in the course.
Course Responsibilities
- The facilitator is to teach college level content. The integrity of the course must be maintained.
- The facilitator is to follow the guidelines set by the instructor of record when providing assistance to students.
- The facilitator is Amarillo College’s quality control person. The facilitator can maintain college level quality by reporting any cheating or plagiarism to the college instructor. And, by not providing excessive coaching or proofing of assignments.
- The facilitator may give a different grade from the college grade for the high school portion of the class.
Student Responsibilities
- Inform students of important dates: due dates, drop dates, test dates, etc.
- Coach students on going to college and college expectations. Students need to understand what a syllabus is, how many grades they will have, makeup work policies, etc.
- Familiarize students with the AC Website – accessing grades, registration, etc.
- Act as a mediator between the college and student when necessary.
Telecourse Responsibilities
- Use the college materials. Students must be made aware of material in the study guides and text book.
- Work with the instructor of record on test dates. Make sure the tests are given in the time period prescribed.
- Work with the instructor of record to determine how you will get materials back and forth from the college to the high school.
Online Responsibilities
- Submit personal information to the Director of Academic Outreach or to the instructor of record your first semester to teach an online class. This information will be used to create your account in the AC system.
- Learn the basics of AC Online (Blackboard Learning Management System). Training is available by call the Center of Teaching and Learning, 371-5993.
