Frequently Asked Questions

All newly enrolled students should take New Student Orientation.

No, but it is preferred that you see your Academic Advisor before or as soon as possible afterward to get registered for classes. There may or may not be an opportunity for you to register during your orientation.

Transfer students with 12 or more transferable hours and a 2.0 or higher GPA (from a previously attended institution) do not need to take New Student Orientation. Official transcripts from previously attended institutions must be on file with the AC Registrars Office for exemption to be verified. Please call (806) 371-5440 to verify transfer exemption.

Yes.

New Student Orientation prepares students for the first semester of college. By providing important information about policies, services, and activities, New Student Orientation helps you avoid potential obstacles in achieving your goals. Content includes key resources, strategies for success, and opportunities to meet other new students.

Students can fulfill their New Student Orientation requirement by registering for and completing any ONE of the following:

  • Badger Beginnings: Registration for Badger Beginnings is the same as registering for your regular courses through AC Connect and your Academic Advisor.
  • General Sessions: Registration for General Sessions is the same as registering for your regular courses through AC Connect and your Academic Advisor.

  • Parent Orientation: Parents of recent high school graduates who are attending Badger Beginnings have the option of attending a separate Parent orientation that occurs at the same time as your student.
  • Family Friendly Orientation: While our general sessions are accommodating as needed, Amarillo College does offer a specific orientation designed to allow for guests and children to attend with the student. The sessions are mainly held in an auditorium setting, where one may easily step out of needed. We also offer an opportunity for children to hang out in our FirstBank Southwest Gym with licensed supervision during specific orientation sessions.
