Vacation Leave


All full-time employees accrue vacation at the rate of approximately one day per month.  Part-time, benefits eligible employees will accrue vacation at a rate proportional to their appointment percent and months of service.  Classified personnel accrue vacation from the date of employment, but cannot take vacation until after the completion of the six-month probationary period. Twelve-month Faculty and Administrative personnel are eligible to take accrued vacation upon employment. 

Administrative, Classified and 12 month Faculty personnel may accrue vacation leave up to 20 days for length of service under five years.  For length of service over five years but less than ten, 25 days may accrue.  For service over ten years, a maximum of 30 days of vacation time may accrue.

Classified and Administrative employees who work less than 12 months will accrue vacation at a rate proportional to their months of service.  Only 12 month Faculty will accrue vacation.

Sick Leave


All full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of approximately one day per month. Sick leave may be used for illness of employee, and illness in the immediate family which is defined as spouse, child, mother, father, or other family member who is dependent upon the employee as a primary source of financial support.

Holidays


Holidays - Benefits eligible employees are eligible for paid holidays upon employment. Amarillo College has approximately 19 paid holidays each year. The following holidays are observed: Labor Day; Thanksgiving Holiday (2 days); Christmas Holiday (approximately 10 days); Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Holiday; Spring Vacation (2 days only); Good Friday; Memorial Day; Juneteenth and Independence Day.

 

Educational Opportunities


Educational Opportunities - Amarillo College tuition scholarships are available for credit and noncredit courses.

Full-Time Employees (employees who are in the State Retirement Program) - All full-time employees, their spouses, and dependent children (who are legal dependents for income tax purposes) are eligible for tuition scholarships at Amarillo College. Supervisory approval is required for employees wishing to take more than six semester hours or its equivalent (96 clock hours), that could conflict with the employees work schedule.

Part-Time Employees - Those faculty who have less than a 50% teaching load of credit and/or noncredit courses and other part-time employees are eligible for tuition scholarships for up to six semester hours or 96 clock hours per semester during the semester in which they are employed.

In all cases above, the individual enrolling in the course is responsible for paying any related fees or supplies necessary for the class.
