Schedule/Cycle of Assessment (2 year cycle)

How do I know when to assess? What am I assessing? Which semester/year do I prepare?

The college assesses both program and institutional (general education) outcomes on a biennial basis. For example, outcomes were assessed in 2020-21 and re-assessed in 2022-23 cycle. Program student learning outcomes to be assessed are determined by the faculty.

Program Review

This is a biennial report where each program leader and faculty reviews the overall health of their academic program(s) as it relates to the following institutional goals: Alignment of Certificates and Degrees with Labor Market Demand, Completion, Equity, Learning, and Retention.  This is part of the overall Institutional Effectiveness process and is a study of performance indicators for your program(s). To complete your Program Review, program leaders and faculty may access this data here:  Program Review Dashboard

This process is a collaborative initiative with both the Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research offices.

PSLO Assessment and Evaluation Report for Technical Programs

This is an assessment methodology chosen by many of our technical programs to assess mapped learning outcomes in lieu of assessing with rubrics in the Blackboard Outcomes Assessment application.

Many technical programs have an external accreditation board in which this method is most helpful in reporting student achievement to their boards. Many of the students also do not have a presence in Blackboard for uploading assignments (Blackboard Outcomes Assessment relies on uploaded student work) because at the "mastery level," these students are in clinicals, labs, or East Campus industrial facilities demonstrating their competencies.

This is an annual report due every September 15th for the previous academic year.

Use-of-Results to Seek Improvement

Approved by Assessment Committee-March 2019

This ensures that each Action Plan for Improvement identified through ISLO Assessment, PSLO Assessment, Program Reviews, and Annual Assessment Reports (for non-instructional administrative units) is an actionable item that leads to seeking improvement. Results are analyzed and a conclusion is drawn as to whether an implemented change has made an impact on student success and learning.
