Lynn Library on the Washington Street Campus houses the main printed book collection, study areas, and a collaborative work and study area equipped with computer workstations and course-based software, scanners and photocopiers. Research and projects can be completed with the help of the librarys technical, reference and instruction staffs.
The West Campus Library, located within the Northwest Branch of the Amarillo Public Library, holds materials primarily for nursing and allied health studies, but materials are also provided for all programs located on West Campus. Computer workstations and related software are available. A librarian is on duty for research assistance.
The Amarillo College Libraries together offer 41,566 print materials, and 92,802 electronic titles. More materials are available through a cooperative agreement with the Harrington Library Consortium (HLC) and through the TexShare Card program. See the policies below for more information.
Students and staff may access library resources physically or online; community members have access to Amarillo College Libraries physical materials and to electronic resources shared through the Harrington Library Consortium.
Lynn Library is located on the 4th floor of the Ware Student Commons. Extensive resources and services are provided for AC students and employees, limited resources and services are provided to the community at large.
AC West Campus Library Services
The Library has a service area inside the Northwest Branch of Amarillo Public Library on the West Campus. It is available to people affiliated with AC. A trained AC employee is available to help with research, and four student computers are available. West Campus Library Services is closed on weekends and has hours that differ from those of Lynn Library.
A classroom with tables and a projector is available by reservation for research classes and group work. Individual AC students may study in the room when it has not been reserved by others. Call 806-356-3627 or toll-free at 866-371-5468 for more information.
Circulation
A valid card is required to take material from any AC library, and any current AC student, faculty, or staff member may apply for an AC Library card. Proof of employment or current enrollment at AC MUST be presented to get a card. The card is good as long as the holder is associated with AC but must be renewed periodically.
The AC libraries also honor valid library cards from any institution that is a member of the Harrington Library Consortium. This group includes Amarillo Public Library and its branches as well as many other libraries in the Texas Panhandle. Delinquencies (card blocks for overdue materials or fines) from other HLC libraries will be honored by the AC Libraries, and a person may not check out material from AC until the problem is cleared up at the other library.
Materials in the Loan Collection at Lynn Library are available for 14-day check-out periods and may be renewed once by calling the Library. Faculty and staff members may obtain extended loans upon request. Faculty and staff will not be charged fines on AC material.

However, reasonable requests to borrow less heavily used titles for brief periods of time will be granted to faculty and staff and to students who need these materials for classroom demonstrations or photography purposes. Fulfillment of such requests will be at the discretion of the Reference Services staff, and the materials will be subject to recall when other patrons need the items.

Copyright
Nearly all media, including computer software, purchased or rented, is protected by U.S. copyright laws. Copyright attaches as soon as a work is created, and registration by the creator is not necessary. Specific regulations govern our right to reproduce or change formats of most media, including video materials recorded off air. Also, use limitations usually apply to recorded video materials. See the copyright section on the Library's Academic Supports page for more information.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan is the process by which a library requests materials from, or supplies them to, another library to make resources available that are not in the user's local library. It is provided to AC faculty and staff only. To request an item, contact Melissa Eder via email or by phone at 806-345-5582. Hard-copy items may be delivered through intercampus mail and electronic materials via e-mail.
Academic resources for students are provided through the Library's physical and digital collections.

Reserve Desk Services
Materials can be placed on reserve with conditions that differ from the general circulation policy, such as in-house use or reduced loan period. Due to limited space, high-circulation items and those that require only short-term use are appropriate items for reserve. Any format of material may be placed on reserve by any instructor, staff member, or department to be checked out by any group for any length of time.
A valid card must be presented to check items out from the Reserve Desk, even if the material is to stay in the building. No reserve materials may be taken from the Library by patrons with delinquencies, whether the fines are at the AC Library or at another HLC library.
To place an item on reserve, bring it to the Circulation/Reserve Desk of the Lynn Library. A Reserve Material Form will be available there. The information on this form will determine the length of each circulation and any other restrictions to be placed on the material. This form should be filled out and given, along with the material to be placed on reserve, to the person on duty. The material will be available for check-out in approximately 24 hours.
Any photocopies or other reproductions placed on reserve must have appropriate permission from the publisher to produce copies. The Copyright Act of 1976 will be strictly adhered to as interpreted by the American Library Association's Copyright Guidelines for photocopies and educational material.
The Reserve Desk area has equipment available to assist patrons in viewing some of the formats available on reserve. This equipment may not be checked out to leave the building, but it is available for use any time the Library is open.

Amarillo College Library strives to provide the educational resources necessary to support the goals of Amarillo College (AC). All materials acquired by the Amarillo College Library should reflect resource needs and enrichment opportunities for AC students, student families, and staff.
Selection Philosophy
The Amarillo College Library subscribes to the American Library Associations Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement. Therefore, it is our policy to buy materials that will:
encourage development of the individual student and the college community
assist students in educational endeavors
make them aware of scientific advances, current and historical events, ethical standards and become appreciative of arts
inspire critical thinking, and stimulate factual growth and literacy appreciation
make their leisure time more enriching
Acquisition of materials does not imply approval or endorsement of the contents; materials are acquired to support curriculum, represent the diverse backgrounds of students and staff, and provide exposure to different perspectives.
All physical and electronic materials acquired reflect the needs of Amarillo College. Any resource in the collection reflects at least one of the following:
Curriculum Support
Specific Research Requirements
General Information
Professional Growth
Cultural Enrichment
Extracurricular Interests
Note: Textbooks used in classes taught at the College are not normally purchased for the collection unless they cover an area of interest for which there is no general information available. The Library has partnered with the Amarillo College Advocacy and Resource Center to provide a selection of free textbooks for student checkout.
Selection is based upon principle rather than personal opinion, reason rather than prejudice, and judgment rather than censorship. Electronic resources added must be sustainable by the Librarys subscription budget.
Gifts
The same criteria that applies to selection of new materials is applied to gifts and other donated materials. The Amarillo College Library has the right to reject any material on the basis of our stated policy.
Material Evaluation
To aid in the identification, evaluation, and selection of materials purchased, librarians use a variety of professional selection aids. Standard review sources are routinely consulted, such as Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, Booklist, New York Times Book Review, publisher previews and other scholarly journals. Selection sources may also include bibliographies published by academic associations (e.g.,American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year).
Responsibility of Selection
The responsibility of collection management ultimately rests with the Library Director and with the professional library staff. Material selection, however, is a shared process between librarians and contributions from faculty, staff, and students. Recommendations and advice of faculty and students aid in fulfilling the missions of the Library(link) and the College. Any person(s) questioning the appropriateness of material in the collection should contact the Library Director.
Deselection
Deselection, commonly referred to as weeding, is essential for appropriate maintenance of the library collection. Yearly assessments are conducted to evaluate library materials. Withdrawals are conducted based on:
Obsolescence
Lack of Use
Physical Condition
Changing curricular needs
Labels and security devices will be removed upon deselection. Withdrawn materials are offered to the community at large, for further personal enrichment; in compliance with AC policy, they are not used for revenue purposes.
For consideration of others
We request that everyone maintains a reasonable volume to allow for studying in the Library.
Students are expected to put cell phones on vibrate or silence in the Library. If a student receives a call, they are expected to step into an empty classroom, one of the hallways, or exit the floor.
To limit noise and for the safety of our students, the use of speakerphone in the Library is PROHIBITED.
Violation of these requests distracts all users and staff of the Library and may result in a request to leave the floor.
