The Moore County Campus Career and Technical Center will be built in the Dumas Economic Development Corp. Business Park, located at Highway 287 and Success Boulevard in Dumas.
The Dumas Economic Development Corp donated approximately 11 acres to Amarillo College in its Business Park for the new campus. The Amarillo College Board of Regents approved the project at its regular meeting in September 2011. The facility will be funded by revenue bonds.
The 30,000 square foot building, complete with classrooms, labs and shops, will be used for career and technical programs.
Groundbreaking Conducted for MCC Technical Center
Ground was officially broken October 19th for the much-anticipated $4.6 million Career and Technical Training Center at AC's Moore County Campus.
Amarillo state Sen. Kel Seliger addressed the gathering, and Moore County Judge Billie Faye Schumacher served as master of ceremonies.
The ceremony took place at the center’s future site in the Dumas Economic Development Corporation (DEDC) Business Park located at 115 Success, Blvd., on the north edge of the city.
The DEDC donated approximately 11 acres to the Moore County Campus for the new facility, which will be funded by revenue bonds.
The Career and Technical Center will consist of about 30,000 square feet of space and house classrooms, labs and shops that support the inclusion of career and technical programs into the expanding mission of AC Moore County Campus.
It is anticipated that the new structure will be completed and ready for use in time for the fall semester of 2013. Soon thereafter, students who live in the Dumas area will be able to receive quality technical training in their own backyards, while area employers can look forward to a trained and willing workforce.
“It is truly exciting that we’ve reached the point of actual construction,” Renee Vincent, executive director of the Moore County Campus, said. “This means that in about a year from now we’ll be offering credit courses and certificate programs in areas like renewable energy, electronics, industrial maintenance and more—high-demand fields that industry has told us it needs.
“Our students will benefit from these expanded educational opportunities, our industry will benefit from an expanded, better-trained workforce, and our community will be the greatest beneficiary of all.”
The majority of careers soon will require some form of postsecondary training, and Vincent said employers will be more likely to locate in Moore County if a trained workforce is available.
“Skilled trades are becoming a lost art,” she said. “We need to train students to make a good living and stay in the Dumas, Sunray and Cactus areas. The Moore County Campus has outgrown its current facility. Right now, we’re using a garage with no air conditioning for our renewable energy training.
“This new facility, which was approved in 2011 by the Amarillo College Board of Regents, will not only allow us to develop partnerships with employers—leading to higher paying jobs—but we’ll also be able to develop partnerships with school districts in Dumas and Sunray.”

Amarillo College Moore County Campus will dedicate its sparkling new Career and Technical Training Center during a ceremonial ribbon-tying event at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23.
The ribbon-tying is symbolic of the joining of Moore County Campus with Dumas-area industry and Dumas and Sunray Independent School Districts in a concerted effort to both expand educational opportunities and address the community’s burgeoning workforce needs.
Commemoration of the $4.6 million center will take place on-site: 115 Success Blvd., in the Dumas Economic Development Corporation (DEDC) Business Park on the north edge of the city—it’s on the east side of U.S. 287.
The DEDC donated approximately 11 acres to the Moore County Campus for the new facility, which is funded by revenue bonds.
The Career and Technical Center consists of about 30,000 square feet of space and houses classrooms, labs, shops and equipment that support the inclusion of career and technical programs into the expanding mission of AC Moore County Campus.
When the Center opens for classes this fall, students who live in the Dumas area will be availed of quality technical training in their own backyards, while area employers can look forward to a trained and willing workforce. The center will offer program certificates in renewable energy, electronics, industrial maintenance, HVAC, instrumentation and more—all high-demand fields found in several local industries.
For Dumas and Sunray high school students, the Dual Credit program that accelerates student’s college careers, will also reside at the center.
“This is an exciting milestone for the Moore County Campus,” Executive Director Renee Vincent said. “Our students will benefit from these expanded educational opportunities, our industry will benefit from an expanded, better-trained workforce, and our community will be the greatest beneficiary of all.”
