Admission Process Advance EMSP Curricula

As stated in the admission criteria, the completed application portfolio must be submitted to the EMSP office no later than October 15th immediately preceding the anticipated January start date.

1.   The EMSP applicant committee will review all completed portfolios that have been timely submitted.  During the review process, points earned by each applicant will be totaled. Those applicants with the highest total points will fill the allotted openings for students to be admitted into the next advanced EMSP class.

Admission points are earned by:

A.   Completion of required EMSP General Education courses as listed in the general catalog:

Each "A" earns   10 points

Each "B" earns    6 points

Each "C" earns   2 points

Each "D" earns   0 points

Each "F" earns    -2 points

B.   Completion of required EMSP Related and Elective courses as listed in the general catalog:

Passing grade for Human A&P II    10 points

Each "A" earns   6 points

Each "B" earns   4 points

Each "C" earns  2 points

Each "D" earns  0 points

Each "F" earns  -2 points

C.   Completion of any college degree or certificate earned from an accredited institution of higher learning:

Any appropriate, health-care related certificate earns   10 points

Any Associates degree earns   20 points

Any Bachelor's or higher degree earns   30 points

D.   High School Honors (Documentation Required)

Valedictorian earns   10 points

Salutatorian earns   8 points

National Honor Society earns   5 points

Tech-Prep High School Graduate   10 points

E.  EMS related service and experience

Length of continuous EMS certification:

12 years or more   15 points

8 years   10 points

4 years   5 points

Volunteer provider for:  (Documentation Required)

5 years or more   30 points

2 years   15 points

At least 1 year   5 points

Paid provider for:  (Documentation Required)

5 years or more   30 points

2 years   15 points

At least 1 year   5 points

2.   During November of the application year, the EMSP office will notify the selected applicants by letter.  If the applicant ranks within the highest number of applicants to be admitted that year, he or she will receive an appointment to begin the advanced EMSP program with the start of the January class.

The applicant will be given a two week period in which to accept their class appointment. 

If confirmation is not received in this two-week period the applicant will forfeit their position in the class.

3.   If an applicant is selected and declines the position in the class he/she will forfeit their position in the class and will be required to follow the process for re-application if they wish to be considered for the class in the following year.  The forfeited position will be awarded to the next highest qualified applicant.
