The Amarillo College Department of Music welcomes the general student to its classes and studios. MUSI-1306 Music Appreciation is designed specifically for non-music majors and fulfills the Creative Arts Core requirement. Performance instruction and most ensembles are available to non-music majors for academic elective credit or through continuing education and to members of the general community.
*Scholarships are available by audition for non-music majors to enroll in private lessons and ensembles - see step 2 below.

Step Two: For Music Scholarship Consideration, (If you do not wish to be considered for a music scholarship, skip to step three.)
Step Three: Add private lessons, ensemble, and/or group music class to your schedule (see below) or contact Tiffany McDaniel for assistance in registering for music classes. Be sure to discuss this with your program major advisor – music classes will be an elective option in your degree plan or contribute to an excessive credit limit.
Private lessons focus on the art and practice of an instrument or voice, with emphasis on tone quality, technique, rhythm, interpretation, and literature. Additional course fees are charged for these classes; see General Fees - Music
To register, go to the Academic Schedule of Classes, select the Term you are interested in. Select MUAP-Applied Music under Courses And Sections, you can choose to filter Days of the Week and/or Location, etc., click Search. Scroll through available sections or search for a specific instrument in the upper right "Search for Courses" bar. Non-music majors should select a one-hour credit elective (30-minute lesson) or two-hour credit elective (60-minute lesson) section. Students and advisors may also contact the Music Office at (806) 371-5340 for assistance in registering for private lessons.
Placement is subject to availability and other departmental factors.
Group instruction is designed for beginners and emphasizes basic technique, rhythm, tone and musical interpretation. Each class is only one credit hour. Available courses are: MUSI-1181 and MUSI-1182 Piano Class I and II, and MUSI-1192 Guitar Class.
