This program is designed for students who wish to earn a certificate (as well as prepare for progression toward more advanced EMS credentialing or entering the Fire Protection program) in addition to completing the academic, clinical and field internship requirements for certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) as an EMT. Successful completion also meets eligibility requirements for the National Registry of EMTs EMT examination process.
A grade of C or higher is required for satisfactory completion of all courses in this curriculum.
These courses are open enrollment. No application is needed beyond the general admission application to the college. As such, students may enroll during Amarillo College's Academic enrollment periods. However, students seeking entry into the advanced EMSP program (AEMT and/or Paramedic) must file a specific program application and complete additional admission procedures as required.
*Note: Highly Recommended: Reading Techniques II - minimum grade of "C" or a college-level score on the TSI Language exam. For more information about the TSI exam, contact the Testing Center (806-371-5445)
