How to Apply for Financial Aid

Amarillo College requires students applying for grants or loans to submit "The Free Application for Federal Student Aid" form to the Department of Education. Our federal school code is 003540. In addition, students are required to submit the Summer Grant Request form to receive financial aid during the summer semesters. Summer grant and loan requests cannot be accepted until the student has enrolled in all summer classes.

For additional information, please view the 15/16 Seven Easy Steps to FAFSA provided by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships University of California, Santa Barbara

After the FAFSA has been processed, you can submit a Fall/Spring Direct Loan Request, or a Summer Direct Loan Request. Direct Loans will not be considered until all other aid has been determined.  No loan checks will be disbursed prior to the first day of class, but students may be able to charge books against loan balances prior to first class day.

Parents of dependent students may apply for the Parent Plus loan. To be eligible, the student must first have completed the FAFSA application at Amarillo College. Federal law requires the Department of Education to perform a credit check before approving a PLUS loan. A pre-approval from the Department of Education must be sent to the college before the PLUS loan will be originated by the Financial Aid Office.

To apply for an academic scholarship, submit the Amarillo College Scholarship Application to the Amarillo College Foundation Office, College Union Building, Room 206. The application deadline is typically March 1st every year. Scholarships will be awarded in May and distributed at the first of the Fall semester. Call the Foundation Office at (806) 371-5107 with inquiries.

All applications are available online or from the Financial Aid office. Students should apply early and must reapply each year.

The instructions provided on these forms must be followed carefully; inaccurate or incomplete information will cause delays in the processing of the application. Applications for financial aid will not be considered complete until all required forms are on file in the Financial Aid Office.
